| Sachiyo Tsurumi (b. Ibaraki, 1976) Born in Ibaraki prefecture in 1976. Received her bachelors degree from the Faculty of Music at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. Awarded the Honorable Mention in the annual International Gaudeamus Music Week with her guitar duo piece "Toy" in 2000. She was selected to be an invited composer in the Annual Takefu International Composition Workshop in 2002 and in the Oslo Contemporary Music Festival ULTIMA 2005 in Norway. Presented the chamber music piece "KAMOSHIKA" in 2003 (commissioned by the Yokohama Arts Foundation) and the mixed chorus piece: "Striped Stripes" in 2004 (commissioned by the Tokyo Philharmonic Chorus). Also wrote works requested by and collaborated with a number of ensembles and musicians such as Aphids Trio (Australia), POING (Norway), The Peals Before Swine Experience (Sweden), TAMATEBAKO (Japan), Saxophone quartet "STRIKE" and Brass Extreme Tokyo (Japan), Norio Sato (guit), Dogen Kinowaki (fl), Kazuko Takada (shamisen), Yumiko Tanaka (futozao-shamisen), Mutsumi Tsuuzaki (marimba), Aki Takahashi (pf), Satoko Inoue (pf), Kaori Nakajima (pf), Mie Miki (acc). Her composition works involve Japanese traditional instruments as well as western ones. Covers a wide range of genres: not only serious music but also movie soundtracks, pops music, folk, and those for kids. Her art to create unique and fresh blend of different genres has won a high reputation both in and out of Japan. | ||||
